Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. - Petrobras, established in 1953 and headquartered in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, functions as an integrated energy corporation. Its core business involves the exploration, extraction, and commercialization of oil and natural gas, serving both the Brazilian domestic market and international clients. The company's extensive operations are categorized into four primary segments: Exploration and Production; Refining, Transportation and Marketing; Gas and Power; and Corporate and Other Businesses. Petrobras's activities span the entire hydrocarbon value chain. This includes initial prospecting and drilling for crude oil in diverse environments, from onshore and offshore fields to shale and other unconventional sources. It also covers the subsequent refining, processing, trading, and transportation of crude oil, refined petroleum products, natural gas, and other liquid hydrocarbons. The Exploration and Production division is dedicated to discovering, developing, and extracting crude oil, natural gas liquids, and natural gas, primarily destined for Brazil's domestic refining infrastructure. The Refining, Transportation and Marketing segment manages the refining processes, logistics, transport, merchandising, and commercial exchange of crude oil and its derivatives. Additionally, this unit handles ethanol exports, the extraction and processing of shale, and maintains strategic investments in petrochemical ventures. Within the Gas and Power segment, Petrobras is responsible for the logistics and trading of natural gas and electricity, encompassing the transportation and commercialization of liquefied natural gas (LNG). This segment also involves the generation of electricity through thermoelectric plants, holding interests in natural gas transportation and distribution networks, and participation in fertilizer production and natural gas processing. Finally, the Corporate and Other Businesses segment focuses on the production of biodiesel and its associated co-products, ethanol manufacturing, and the distribution of various petroleum products.
