Within the Automotive sector, the company develops and supplies wiring harnesses, various electrical components, steel cords used for tire reinforcement, and specialized steel wires. The Infocommunications division offers a broad spectrum of fiber optic products, fusion splicers, comprehensive data center solutions, intelligent transport systems, and remote monitoring systems. This segment further provides advanced optical and wireless devices, including transceiver modules, specialized optical lenses, multi-fiber interconnects such as AirMT, and low-profile fiber arrays essential for silicon photonics. The Electronics division produces electronic wires, flexible printed circuits, heat-shrinkable tubing, and a variety of specialized wires like cladded, plated, and alloy types. It also manufactures thermoplastic components, PTFE membranes, abrasion-resistant materials, magnet and aluminum bars, spinel products, sintered parts, EV quick-charger connector assemblies, coaxial cables, and RGB laser modules. In the Environment and Energy sector, Sumitomo Electric delivers diverse systems and products tailored for railway and transport applications. Its Industrial Materials segment encompasses cutting tools, including diamond/CBN grinding wheels, drills, endmills, and milling and turning tools. Additionally, it provides PC steel wires, high-strength shear reinforcement, laser optics, and magnesium alloy components. The company was founded in 1897, originally known as Sumitomo Electric Wire & Cable Works, and adopted its present name, Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd., in 1939.
