Management remarks
Call period: 2026 Q3 · 2026-10-22
Guidance: Frank Martin Svoboda: For the full year, we expect health premium revenues to grow by around 15% and underwriting margin to grow in the range of 4.0% to 4.5%.
Demand and orders: James Matthew Darden: Sales continued to be very strong in the Medicare Supplement business, due primarily to tailwinds from the high volume of people turning 65, the movement of Medicare beneficiaries from Medicare Advantage to Medicare Supplement, and the rate increases implemented during the second quarter.
Margins: Frank Martin Svoboda: Life underwriting margin was $458 million, down 5% from a year ago, primarily due to fluctuations in the assumption updates related to LTD. Excluding the impact of the assumption updates, life underwriting margin would have increased by approximately 3%.
Analyst Q&A
Analyst Ryan Krueger asked: Good morning. First question was, can you say how much of an assumption review benefit that you embedded in the midpoint of your 2027 EPS guidance? Management Thomas Peter Kalmbach answered: We really want to see how results emerge in Q4 to help guide us to further clarify how much assumption updates we would expect I would expect remeasurement gains, each quarter, so I think you will see those in and, those will be indicative of the likelihood of an assumption update in 2027. If you look at our third quarter results, you will see that we had actual to expected remeasurement gains for the quarter of about $20 million for the life business, which is after the update to our life assumptions.
